My filter pressure is very high, what should I do?

  • Backwash the filter (DE & Sand Filters)
  • Clean cartridges (Cartridge Filters)
  • If no results call for service

D.E. Filters:

Backwash when P.S.I. (pressure per square inch) reaches 8-10 degrees higher than normal operation. Shut off system, (selector valve in backwash position). Start system. Let run 60-90 sec. (or until discharged water is clear). Shut system off. Return to normal filter position, and then restart. Add 1 lb. coffee can equivalent of D.E. (Diatomaceous Earth) per 5 sq. ft. of filtration. Add to either skimmer 1 can at a time, then note pressure & backwash again only when P.S.I. reaches 8-10 degrees higher than normal operation.

Sand Filter:

Backwash when P.S.I. reaches 8-10 degrees higher than normal operation. Shut off system, switch selector valve to backwash position. Start system. Let run 60-90 sec. (or until discharged water is clear). Shut system, change selector valve to filter position. Start system. If water is cloudy, add alum through skimmer to coat the sand. The alum will help produce a finer filter media.
